Our mission is to make sure that all our students will become good, safe, and confident drivers. The driving skills they first learn set the foundation for becoming safe and accident-free drivers throughout their adult lives. Our driving program is designed to give students the good start they need.
In Illinois, most young people learn to drive in high school or at a commercial driver training school licensed by the Illinois Secretary of State. Drive Now Driving School is a State certified facility that offers driver education to high school students as well as adults. Each driving instructor has been tested and licensed by the state of Illinois. Our approved driver education classes include 30 hours of classroom study and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. Enrollment in a Driver’s Education course is required for teens 15-17 prior to obtaining their learner’s permit, and receiving their Driver’s License. The full course takes a minimum of 4 weeks to complete and classes are offered after school, evenings, and weekends. If you’re ready to learn how to drive, follow the next 4 steps and you’ll be on your way to earning your driver’s license.
This section outlines the age and legal requirements you must meet in order to be eligible for our Driver Education and Driver Training classes.
Course qualifications and requirements: You must turn 15 before the end of the course you ‘re enrolled in. All students under the age of 17 and 9 months are required to take driver education to receive a license. Each student must receive a passing grade in at least 8 courses during the previous 2 semesters, prior to enrolling, to be eligible to take driver education.
Each student is required to complete and pass 30 hours of classroom study, 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel training and 6 hours of observation.
Our course includes an emphasis on the development of knowledge, attitudes, habits and skills necessary for the safe operation of motor vehicles. With all of our driver education materials, teens will learn all about the basics of driving that includes: the rules of the road, how to deal with different driving conditions, how to react in emergencies, and everything they need to know to become safe and responsible drivers.
Classroom Studies: Classroom instructions will be given in fifteen, two hour sessions, during a minimum period of 4 weeks, with no more than one session a day. Any classroom sessions missed must be made up to successfully pass this course. Both the midterm and final exam tests require a 75% or better score to pass.
Behind-the-Wheel: Students may be scheduled for a behind-the-wheel lesson after they attend a minimum of 6 hours of classroom instruction and obtain an instruction permit from the Secretary of State. For the six hour package, observation is scheduled with each behind-the-wheel session.
Generally, two students are grouped together for the in-car instruction. Each student spends 60 – 90 minute driving and the other observing. Students who register for the 8 hour package will receive individual instruction, which will waive the observation time.
Note: 8 hour students may have another student observing them during instruction time.
Note: The “Completion Date” which is 9 months from the first day of class must complete all in-Vehicle training. In-vehicle training scheduled after the Completion Date will be subject to an additional $150 fee. Students MUST pass an In-Vehicle evaluation in order to be eligible for the Secretary of State Certificate of Completion.
All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled drive time. Failure to give at least 24 hours notice of cancellations will result in a forfeiture of that driving hour. Students will need to purchase another behind-the-wheel lesson in order to complete the required driving time and fulfill their state requirement.
Note: All students must have their Instruction Permit IN HAND in order to take their driving lesson. If the permit is not IN HAND, the drive will be treated as a cancellation and the student will forfeit that driving hour. Student will need to purchase another behind-the-wheel lesson.
